A farmers' market with the widest range of products in the city, the Churchyard Market opens on the third Saturday of every month at 8.00 a.m. in the courtyard of the Debrecen Great Church Congregation Centre, at 2 Leány Street. The next time it opens its doors on the 15th of February. At the market local farmers and artisans sell their products at reasonable prices in the heart of the city centre offering smoked pork products, meats, cheeses, jams, vegetables, pickles, artisan gifts and much more.  There will also be “slambuc”  traditional, a Hungarian dish made from potatoes, pasta and bacon cooked in a pot),  and a book exchange point available. Visitors can choose from hundreds of books,  any of the books can be exchanged for another book of their own or taken away for a symbolic donation. ABBA Show in Debrecen

French-Hungarian Animation Film at Apollo Cinema

More than 40 years ago, the novel “The Orphan of the Planet Perdide” was re-imagined and brought to life on screen by René Laloux and Jean Giraud (Moebius) with the help of Pannónia Film Studio and Hungarofilm. The result has since become an absolute milestone in the history of Hungarian animation. The protagonist of the film “Masters of Time” (French:Les maîtres du temps, Hungarian: Az idő urai)  is a young boy named Piel, who is left alone in a fatal accident on the mysterious and terrifying planet Perdide. What will happen to him? Can he be saved? Will he survive this dangerous adventure? The film, a French-Hungarian co-production, premiered in 1982, will be screened at the Hungarian Film Harvest on Sunday, the 16th of  February at 7.15 p.m. at the Apollo Cinema. The film will be followed by a round-table discussion on the film's significance, impact and art with the festival's moderators Anna Kata Váró, Miklós Szénási, Zsolt Heller and Ferenc Váradi. Lecture on the Role of Motivation

MCC Debrecen Educational Center holds a lecture in English on the role of motivation on the 18th of February. The lecture will address the following questions: Why do we get up in the morning? Why do we rise to challenges repeatedly, even when every inch of us falls back? Where does motivation at work and home come from, and what fuels and weakens it? What motivates us in our decisions? What tools can we use to motivate ourselves, our children, our colleagues or, in education, our students? "Lyrics Lab" is an interactive, creative workshop for translating singable song lyrics and to bring American songs to life in Hungarian. Its first kick-off meeting will held on the 19th of February. Led by Dr. István Pinczés, award-winning director, translator, and lyricist, "Lyrics Lab" explores the heart of American music through the power of language. From Bob Dylan’s poetic storytelling and the timeless charisma of Elvis to the raw energy of The Doors and Steppenwolf, participants will work with legendary songs that have shaped American culture. Through discussion and hands-on exercises, attendees will transform classic American lyrics into natural, rhythmic Hungarian versions, capturing both meaning and melody.  Whether you're a language enthusiast, a music lover, or simply curious about creative translation, this biweekly workshop series offers a unique way to engage with both the English and Hungarian language in a fun, artistic setting. Hans Zimmer’s Soundtrack Concert

The special evening immerses the audience in the world of the most recognisable movie soundtracks, which are emotional and comprise musical masterpieces that have shaped the contemporary film industry.  In the exclusive concert in Debrecen, a symphony orchestra will play the works of the renowned composer, Hans Zimmer.  The German composer Hans Zimmer is well-known for his film scores. He is renowned for using his music to give stories more passion and emotional nuance. His best-known films include Origin, Interstellar, Dune and Gladiator, which have won the hearts of audiences worldwide. Chinese Lantern Festival on Debrecen’s Oldest Pedestrian Street

The Chinese Lantern Festival is traditionally held in February to mark the end of the Chinese New Year, so it is around the same time as the carnival celebrated in Hungary. At the joint event of the Creative Community of Debrecen and the Confucius Institute visitors can enjoy a music-dance-singing performance of the Chinese cultural circle in an environment decorated with beautiful lanterns, learn about a traditional Chinese musical instrument, the “guzheng”, and then enjoy a light show by fire jugglers. During the colourful programme, children are invited to take part in a carnival costume contest, with prizes to be won, and at the end of the event, Aquamanó will perform at the rousing street ball. The event will close with loud shouting and banging to chase away winter, so the organisers are urging everyone not to leave their “noise-making” devices at home. “Open Stables” Weekend at Hortobágy

The stables of the Mátai Stud Farm, the sheepfolds of Szatmártelek and the livestock farms of the Pusztai Zoo open their doors to visitors. Between 22-23 February 2025, visitors can meet the youngest newcomers to the winter Hortobágy, this year's foals, racka lambs, mangalica piglets, as well as chicks, small ducks and geese, goat goats and donkey kids, guided by the shepherds and animal keepers who look after their animals. The central location of the event, the starting and finishing point of the tours this year is the Tourinform Hortobágy building. This is also when the Hortobágyi Csárda will open its doors to its guests again in 2025, and gypsy music will resound within its walls.
