7th Great Dance Choice Event – “Choose the dance! Choose a dance!”

On the occasion of World Dance Day, at the initiative of the National Association of Dance Teachers and the Hungarian University of Dance Arts,  the 7th Great Dance Choice event will be organised once again, which, as part of a national programme series, awaits dance lovers and those who would like to discover this wonderful form of movement in Debrecen! The Debrecen programme was created in cooperation with the Modern Tánc-Játék Studio and Főnix Event Organizer Ltd. What awaits visitors? 23 different dance styles - Try yourself in free 30-minute dance lessons, where 23 different styles from classical ballet, hip-hop, Latin and folk dances to modern, contemporary, cheerleading, capoeira, competitive dance, country, show dance and acrobatics  are waiting for you! All ages are welcome. - Children, young people, adults and the elderly can join the program. It is worth coming in comfortable clothes suitable for dance class, but there is also the possibility of changing clothes. New Directions in the American Polity

On the 5th of May, MCC Debrecen Educational Center will present a lecture in English titled “New Directions in the American Polity”. Description: Trump’s return and the rise of post-liberal political trends could fundamentally reshape the US polity. Will the traditional political order finally collapse and a new era begin? What will be the impact on the economy, on immigration, on social issues - and what role will actors like USAID and Elon Musk,who is shaping the global tech world and public discourse, play in this process? Post-liberalism is not just a theory, but is increasingly shaping political reality. But where does it come from and what future does it have?  The lecture will answer these questions, while also looking at US developments in the light of Hungarian political changes. Debrecen Jewish Cultural Days and Street Festival

For one week, the Jewish Quarter of Debrecen will come to life again, where between 6-11 May 2025, visitors will be able to get to know the Jewish people and their traditions. The Music Revolution That Failed

MCC Debrecen Educational Center is hosting a special event on May 7th, titled "The Music Revolution That Failed". Description: The MCC’s next event is a groundbreaking combination of keynote speech and concert. Andrew Balio, principal trumpeter of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, who has performed as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic and the Boston Philharmonic, will take the stage not only as a musician but also as a thought-provoking speaker. What if classical music had gone in a different direction? Balio talks about this “what if” moment - and how it affects us today, musicians, listeners, institutions. Why is it worth revisiting Bach’s pieces with an instrumental pairing that rarely comes to the fore? In the second half of the evening, Bach’s well-known and rarely heard works will be reinterpreted for trumpet and organ. The concert will include chorales and sonatas that are well suited to Balio’s clear, technically precise playing. The programme is also professionally important, offering a rarely heard approach to the work of a well-known composer. This is not an evening of nostalgia, but of questions. And possibly an answer. Pallag Art Weekend

Artibus Design & Art Gallery 8 Mezőgazdász Street, Pallag

Visitors are invited to the first Pallag Art Weekend event, which is also the debut of the newly opened Artibus Design & Art Gallery. Inspired by the spirit of the Sestina Gallery, the space will offer contemporary art, design interiors and inspiring encounters over three days. The weekend will feature works by prestigious artists from Debrecen and related to Debrecen, music, friendly discussions and a special "culture house" atmosphere. In the gallery visitors can see works by Barbara Chondromatidou, Melitta Csorján, David Beeri, Péter Donka, Alpár Mihaszna Dóczy, Judit Komlódi, János Kujbus, Marcell Nagy, Róbert Rácz, József Szabó, Zsuzsa Szász and Ferenc Uzonyi.  The opening ceremony will take place on Friday 9 May at 6:00 p.m., with a toast by museologist Lilla Szoboszlai, followed by a performance by the hintaLOW Band. On Saturday, Lyuhász Lyácint Bt. Spring Debrecen Fair

Debrecen was granted town charter by King Louis the Great in 1361 and was a so-called “country town” without walls. It had the right to hold four fairs a year, two of which, the “Gergely” and the “Mihály Day”  fairs, are still held today. It is this tradition and local characteristics that are taken into account when organising the annual Spring and Autumn National Fairs in Debrecen. Batthyany Street Fair and Children’s Flea Market

The Creative Community of Debrecen will soon be bringing a new bustle to Batthyány Street, where the 9th Batthyány Flea Market and Children's Flea Market will be held on Saturday 10 May between 9.00 a.m.  and 12.00 p.m.  To register, please fill in the application form on the programme's Facebook page. The organisers have also set another day for the fair, which will be held on 17 May in case of bad weather. Special Concert at the Debrecen Jewish Festival

On May 10th, starting at 9 p.m., the Debrecen audience will be treated to a truly special musical experience: the iconic formation of Hungarian electronic music, Anima Sound System, will perform as part of the Jewish Cultural Days, with an unusual guest, Dódi Kárpáti, the charismatic frontman of Quimby. Anima Sound System has been shaping the Hungarian music scene for over thirty years; in their unique soundscape, they boldly combine electronics, world music, Hungarian folk music elements and Eastern European Jewish musical motifs.  The speciality of their current performance is not only the usual powerful performance of singer Lili Széchenyi and the band, but also the presence of Dódi Kárpáti, known from Quimby, who brings new colour and depth to the atmosphere of the evening. The concert will feature songs from the first Anima album, "Shalom", which is 30 years old this year, as well as from the latest album, "DERRKOVITS", including a song about Simone Weil, making this evening both danceable and thought-provoking. DKV Open House

On the open day, in addition to the retro vehicles and nostalgia services, visitors can learn the secrets of the vehicle assembly hall and take a historical tour led by Kálmán Gara. Visitors to the event can also visit the stands of Aquaticum Debrecen, the Hajdú-Bihar County Headquarters, the Bicycle Museum and MVK Zrt.
