Solo Exhibition of Attila Bagi “The Still is Life”  Opens

modem

MODEM opens its new exciting exhibition on February 20 at 6:00 p.m. Attila Bagi, a visual artist from Debrecen living in Budapest, presents his solo exhibition in the Project Space which aims to showcase emerging artists.  The exhibition explores the tradition of still life in the context of modern consumer culture and technology, drawing from his series that reimagines the tradition and medium-specific possibilities of still life representation within the transformed object culture and technological environment of the 21st century. Key questions include whether we can see our individuality in mass-produced goods and if disposable items can serve as tools for legacy. Each piece reinterprets traditional still-life painting, pushing objects beyond the picture frame and challenging viewers to rethink genre conventions.   Date: 20 February - 15 April Location: MODEM Source: modemart.hu/en

Kodály Philharmonia Concert with Puccini Melodies

Kodály Philharmonia will bring Puccini's heroines from the operas Tosca, Madame Butterfly, La Bohème Vitae, Manon Lescaut and Gianni Schicchi to the Kölcsey Centre, but also Sister Angelica Part II. On Tuesday, 25 February, at 7.00 p.m., the performance of Puccini's Heroines will feature vocalists Gabriella Létay Kiss and Atala Schöck, the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kodály Choir (choirmaster: Zoltán Kocsis-Holper) and the Lautitia Children's Choir (choirmaster: József Nemes). The performance is sold out, but tickets for the extra section are still available here. Throughout his life, Giacomo Puccini paid particular attention to the female gender. This affection is evident not only in his biographies, but in almost all of his stage works. Seven of his twelve operas have female protagonists, but Bohemia, for example, is more about Mimi, the crow, than about artistic life in Paris. What's more, in this opera there is another carefully nuanced female character, Musetta. But even alongside Turandot, there is a counterpoint in the person of Liú, the self-sacrificing slave girl.   Date: 25 February Location: Kölcsey Centre Source and photo credit:dehir.hu

On the 27th of February, MCC Debrecen Educational Center will present a lecture in German on a current topic, titled "Political Turmoil in Germany - Who will be Germany's new Chancellor?" Description: With the fall of the three-party coalition government led by Olaf Scholz in November, Germany is facing a new political era: on the 23rd of February 2025, after 20 years, early Bundestag elections are being held in the country, which could be decisive for Europe. The parties in the coalition of the Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals have significantly lost popularity during Olaf Scholz's three-year term as chancellor. What led to the fall of the German government?  Which parties do German voters trust? Will there be a shift to the right in Germany, or is a new political force emerging that represents a different social and economic direction? These questions will be addressed at the event "Political Turnaround in Germany - Who will be the new Chancellor of Germany?". Leading Hungarian and German political analysts and experts will share their thoughts on the German elections and their possible consequences at the event. Information about the event: The speaker at the event is Frank Spengler/ Advisor to the MCC's […]
