This year, more than 165,000 free leaf collection bags were distributed to residents by municipal representatives across the city, promoting the recycling of compostable green waste.

AKSD collected the green bags placed in front of properties every week until the end of autumn. Separate leaf collection has been popular in Debrecen for over a decade.

This year, in 8 months, more than 1,000 tonnes of garden waste was collected in bags by the residents of Debrecen, while three times as much, around 3,200 tonnes, was dropped off for recycling at the collection points.

Until spring, green waste can be dropped off free of charge at the collection point of the Regional Waste Treatment Plant.

“Separate collection of garden green waste is suspended in Debrecen from November to March, but during this time, residents can still dispose of their garden green waste, as the green waste collection point is open all year round,” Spokesperson for AKSD Ltd. Csilla Domokos said.

The collection of green bags will resume in Debrecen next March, while AKSD will collect pine trees from the city from the 6th of January, the day of the Epiphany.
