Debrecen is home to an increasingly large expatriate community, so the city is paying special attention to the process of internationalisation, which is largely based on feedback from expats and students studying here. This includes an online questionnaire survey, which gives foreign residents the opportunity to share their opinions and suggestions directly. The survey is being carried out on behalf of the Debrecen Municipality and coordinated by the EDC Debrecen City and Economic Development Centre. Completions are invited between the 21st of  May and the 20th of  June 2024 and can be found at the following link: https://forms.office.com/e/C1u0bDhBpV.

This is not the first time that a survey of expats in the city has been carried out, this is the third time that a survey has been launched  this year to find out how expats perceive Debrecen. The first time was in 2020, when the most frequently mentioned topic was the lack of information in English, so the Municipality of Debrecen Municipality has put a lot of emphasis on providing information in English, including information on public transport and local events.

In 2021, it launched the Debrecen4U.hu international website, which helps foreigners living in Debrecen or planning to move here for a shorter or longer period of time to get to know the city and the services available here, thus facilitating the decision to relocate, temporarily or even permanently stay in Debrecen.

This was followed two years later, in 2022, by another survey with a dual purpose. On the one hand, the results were compared with the results in 2020 to measure the impact of the measures put in place and,on the other hand, during the past two years, events such as the pandemic occurred, which also affected the daily lives of foreign citizens living here. The feedback showed that, despite the difficulties of the last two years, the overall impression of the city has improved significantly in almost all areas covered.

Despite the positive feedback, the city is continuing to make improvements for foreigners and a new online survey will be carried out in 2024 to assess the impact of the measures implemented over the past two years. Foreign residents have until the 20th of  June 2024 to complete the questionnaire.
