Basketballs were flying in the air at the Oláh Gábor Street sports centre.

Children under the age of 10 measured their skills in a line -up competition. The event was organised in connection with the 3×3 basketball Olympic qualifiers taking place in the city. The goal is for all young people to get to know the sport.

“We have been organising 3×3 basketball events here in Debrecen for 10 years, and it has been so popular that the number of participants increases by nearly a hundred every season after the event, because the children enjoy it so much that it is a pleasure to host them,” the chairman of the 3×3 Basketball Olympic Qualifying Organising Committee István Becsky said.

The organisers have thought of all youngsters, from primary school children to university age. The older ones could compete in a basketball tournament and a cup for the title of the best.

The event was also attended by State Secretary for Sport Ádám Schmidt, who won the All Stars competition with his team. “It’s great to see that on Saturday mornings and early afternoons young people are not sitting in front of their computers or in their rooms, but they are outdoors building community, playing sports, running and exercising. I think that’s what the Sporting Nation programme is all about,” he stressed.

The Sporting Nation Programme will also be present at Olympic qualifying sporting events this year, in the form of various competitions. The aim of the programme is to increase the sporting activity of children and adults, which is in line with the objectives of the “Move Debrecen!” health iniative.

“Over the past two and a half years, more than 70,000 people have joined it in Debrecen. We offer different forms of exercise for different target groups, from the elderly through school programs to schoolchildren,” the State Secretary pointed out.
