“Infogroup, one of the leading logistics real estate developers in Eastern Hungary, will start the development of its logistics hall in Debrecen,” the company said. IGPark Debrecen has recently received the building permit. A special feature of the development is that the group intends to build and operate the logistics hall in the immediate vicinity of the BMW plant on a green basis.

“We are aware that as industrial and logistics property developers, we not only support the economic development of our regions, but we also have a responsibility to minimise the ecological footprint of our parks as much as possible, ” Managing Director of the project company Máté Kovács  said.

“This is obviously not easy, as we are talking about an industrial environment, but in line with our group’s ESG strategy, we are planning to implement an ‘eco-industrial’ concept in Debrecen,” he added.

The company is looking for innovative solutions for the sustainable realisation of both the building and the environment, in addition to the usual green solutions such as solar panels and solar farms, which will have a noticeable impact not only during the development phase but also during the operational phase. As a first step, in the case of IGPark Debrecen, for example, it was decided that the energy needs of the 23,000 square metre logistics hall will be provided entirely by electric and alternative energy.

“In 2019, we announced a new environmental policy. As part of this, we decided on a number of measures that all served one purpose: to protect Debrecen’s environment. However, when it comes to environmental protection and sustainability, it is good to have allies with whom we can join forces to seek and find green solutions that can guarantee a clean and liveable future. In this respect, Debrecen is in an extremely fortunate position, because companies, regardless of size, that have been operating here for several years or decades, and companies settling in economic zones as well are showing a growing and serious commitment to environmental and sustainability aspects. This is also the case with the new logistics hall to be built by Infogroup,“ Mayor of Debrecen László Papp emphasised in connection with the investment.
