Markets

There are currently various indoor and outdoor traditional farmers’ markets in Debrecen. These include Nagypiac (3 Vár Street), which is the biggest one, as well as the Malompark farmers’ market, the Angyalföld tér farmers’ market, the Vénkerti farmers’ market, the Fényes udvari farmers’ market, and the Tócóskert tér farmers’ market. These markets are maintained by the municipality, providing traders, resellers and some primary producers with the opportunity to sell their products.

Another major non-profit initiative in our city, where residents have the opportunity to buy high-quality products directly from small producers, is the Szatyor Producer Market, aka Szatyor Termelői Piac. This small-sized wandering market is held four times a week and is hosted by the city’s community centres. Interested customers can choose from a wide range of products here, including jams, bakery products, honey, fresh meat, cheese, vegetables, and fruits, all directly from the producers.

In addition to the traditional farmers’ markets as well as the producer market, the organic market also aims atoffering fresh products. At the Debrecen Organic Market, BioUdvar, only verified and certified organic farmers can sell their products. Usually, 8-12 producers sell their products here once a week, depending on the season.

Some useful tip: Make sure you have cash on you while visiting the farmers’ markets, as usually sellers there do not accept credit or debit cards.
