The movement programmes of the Move Debrecen! movement have found a new location in the Józsa district of Debrecen, at Lorántffy Zsuzsanna Primary School. This was announced on the 9th of April 2024 by Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Diána Széles,  Deputy Mayor of Debrecen and the municipal representative of the area Ákos Balázs, Director of the Debrecen Institute for Primary Care and Health Promotion (Daefi) Csaba Papp and Head of the School Ildikó Czifra, at a press conference, to which President of the Józsa Settlement and Community Development Association Róbert Juráskó also contributed.

As Diána Széles said “ the Move, Debrecen! Movement has a close connection with the Lorántffy School, as the Move, Debrecen! School programme was officially launched here in October 2023.

The work here convinced the organisers of the movement to ask for the school’s help in finding a new location when the need arose to expand the movement opportunities for adults in Józsa, as the community centre had already been “outgrown” by the Move, Debrecen! programmes.

The conditions were the best here. For example, one of the essential elements of these conditions is that the community centres originally used as venues for the programmes, and which, after two and a half years of the movement, have now proved too small for the purpose, do not have adequate space for moving around and changing, while a school gym and the associated changing rooms do. The Move, Debrecen! movement thus began to open up to schools as possible venues for new physical activity programmes for adults, and in this endeavour they found support in the Debrecen School District Centre”. Diána Széles emphasised “ the Move, Debrecen! Movement offers the opportunity of regular exercise to the people of Debrecen, and over the past two and a half years, more than three thousand programmes have been organised, with a total of more than 64 thousand people from Debrecen taking part. For them, a Move Debrecen! programme is often the “highlight of the week”. And these programmes are about them, about what they can do for their health, about being in a community, being open, meeting each other and creating new communities on their own, voluntarily. And this is the essence of the Move Debrecen! Movement”. Diána Széles also congratulated the people of Józsa for doing something to be healthier, to be part of the community and encouraged them to continue their activities. The city of Debrecen stands behind them and supports similar communities. As local tax revenues are increasing due to the growing economy, the city government is investing a total of nearly HUF 200 million in the Move, Debrecen! movement this year.

Deputy Mayor and the municipal representative of the area Ákos Balázs said “more than 13,000 people live in Józsa, and the people of Józsa have always been open to a healthy, environmentally conscious lifestyle. Many people have chosen to live in the area in recent years because it is a community where people are keen to take care of these important issues.

The people of Józsa want to live in an environmentally conscious and healthy way, which is why many of them have chosen Józsa as their home. The City tries to create every opportunity for this, to provide as many services as possible locally. The current expansion of the range of programmes offered by the Move, Debrecen! movement also serves the purpose of giving people living in Józsa more opportunities to relax and recharge their batteries after work”. As he mentioned, the Future of Debrecen movement is also present in the district, offering various opportunities for the people of Józsa to pursue an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The efforts of these two movements complement each other very well and can mobilise tens of thousands of people across the city.

Ákos Balázs also referred to that the Lorántffy School, the new programme venue of Mozdulj, Debrecen, is one of the best schools in the city, which, in addition to its high level of professionalism, has always been characterised by a family-like, inclusive atmosphere and true community spirit. It is no coincidence that parents from other parts of the city, not only from Józsa, bring their children here. The Move, Debrecen! movement is therefore well placed in Lorántffy School.

According to Director of the Debrecen Institute of Primary Care and Health Promotion (Daefi) Csaba Papp the Move Debrecen movement represents life itself by counterbalancing the sedentary lifestyle in big cities and by promoting health preservation. While its ambitions are important for everyone, it is not always the same where the bases of the movement are located in the city. The people of Józsa have a very serious self-awareness and community-creating power that is very characteristic of them, and the people of Alsójózsa especially help each other with great love. Mozdulj, Debrecen is also a very good host location for the Lorántffy school. movement, as the idea of health awareness fits well with the institution’s traditionally existing environmental awareness and recognition of the importance of exercise. The Lorántffy School is also a very good host for the Move, Debrecen! movement, because the idea of health consciousness fits in well with the institution’s tradition of environmental awareness and the recognition of the importance of movement. The fact that the Move Debrecen! School programme was launched here with twice the number of children enthusiastically signing up is a good indication of this.  And the Lorántffy School is the fourteenth in a series of indoor movement programmes for adults. “From the 11th of  April, starting from Thursday, the school’s gym will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  On Mondays from 5.00 p.m.  to 6.00 p.m. yoga classes, on Tuesdays from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m., zumba classes and on Thursdays from 5.00 p.m.  to 6.00 p.m. yoga and from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. zumba classes will be available. This can be changed and extended as required,”  Csaba Papp said.

As the Head of the School Ildikó Czifra emphasised they were happy to open their doors to the people of Józsa and to anyone else. Their school is often described as family-oriented, caring, they look after the children and  the parents, if it’s a caring family, the family members look after each other.

The guests who will come here for the Move Debrecen! programmes will mostly be parents, grandparents and neighbours of the school’s students. And if they have a good time here, this will also have a positive effect on the work of the school, because the children who come here will be even more balanced and happy. The Head of the Institution also said that in October of last year, Mozdulj, Debrecen! School Programme was indeed one of the first to be launched in the city,  and they have even expanded it a little with their own similar programme.  They try to get children to exercise regularly, and they also try to involve parents. They are welcome to go on hikes, bike rides and all activities where parents and children can be together, move together, in all four seasons. Because being part of a shared experience is a common topic of conversation in the family at home, and there is hardly a more important educational task and goal than this.

President of the Józsa Settlement and Community Development Association Róbert Juráskó also commented on the speech. As he said “ the members of our association have also constantly indicated that there is a need for the programmes of the Move, Debrecen! movement, which,  just like the cultural programmes, have now “outgrown” the community centre in Józsa. A new venue was definitely needed, and the school is to be thanked for providing it. What’s more, as a new element of the program, it will also be possible to do zumba, which was not included in the Józsa offer until now, and many people have already requested it ”.
