In 2011, two of Debrecen’s great musical ensembles – the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kodály Choir – merged to become the Kodály Philharmonic Debrecen, which has since coordinated the city’s entire classical music scene under the leadership of the artistic director Dániel Somogyi-Tóth. From 1991 to 2011, it was known as the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The orchestra has been invited several times to France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, South Korea and Morocco, where they performed at famous festivals.
