The small pitch championship of the Debrecen City and District Football Association started with the participation of 1,800 footballers.
The first matches were played last night at the Oláh Gábor Street sports field.The small track championship was organised for the first time in 1971, and since then it has grown into one of the largest mass sports events in the city. The teams compete in six divisions according to strength, with the outdoor season concluding with a tournament of the six winners in October.
On Wednesday, the champion teams of the last two years played the opening match for the Super Cup, which was won by Debrecen Labor Phoenix. The trophy was handed over by Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa.
The city is supporting the tournament with 2.5 million HUF.
