László Holló, a Kossuth Prize-winning painter, was born 138 years ago. In his memory, the Medgyessy Ferenc High School, Art Secondary School, and Technical School organised a wreath-laying ceremony.
First, the statue of the Kossuth and Munkácsy Prize-winning painter was wreathed on the promenade named after him, and then his statue in his former residence, in the garden of the László Holló Memorial House.
At the commemoration ceremony, Deputy Mayor István Puskás said that the painter is still a significant figure in Debrecen’s cultural history and applied arts, so this day is not only a celebration of his birth but also of the fine arts in Debrecen.
“His art was not so much connected to the city as to the Great Plain, to rural Hungary. The way he interpreted rural Hungary is still valid today, not only in the visual arts but also as an intellectual heritage,” István Puskás said.
