At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the BMW Group presented the driving and user experience of the future. At the event, the Bavarian premium manufacturer gave the first glimpse of a near-series version of the new BMW iDrive display and vehicle control technology, with the BMW Panoramic Projector at its center.
“The intelligent display and vehicle control technology is based on the new BMW X operating system, which enables comprehensive personalisation and extensive digital functionality. The holistic system with its modern, style-creating design will be available in all new BMW models from the end of 2025,” their statement reads.
As described, the new BMW Panorama iDrive display and vehicle control technology consists of four core components.
The BMW Panoramic Viewer, a newly developed BMW head-up display concept for projecting content, displays information relevant to the driver and passengers on the lower half of the windscreen, across the entire width of the windscreen against a dark background.
“The integration of the projector creates a three-dimensional effect for both driver and passengers. What’s more, the new BMW 3D Head-Up Display, available as an optional extra, projects integrated information from the navigation system and automated driving directly into the driver’s field of vision above the BMW Panoramic View,” they wrote, sharing more information on technological innovations in their press release.
The brand made a funny video for the CES 2025 event, with a star from movie, The Hangover.
The innovations follow BMW’s “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road” principle, along which the Bavarian premium brand from time to time sets the industry standard for driver-centricity and realises a unique form of intuitive, user-friendly and ergonomically optimised vehicle control.
“The new BMW X operating system is a further developed version of the state-of-the-art operating system running in many current BMW models, which was developed entirely in-house by the Bavarian premium manufacturer,” the company added.
“The new BMW Panorama iDrive display and vehicle control technology concept running the BMW X operating system represents a huge technological leap forward, as it simultaneously guarantees intuitive vehicle control, a magical driving experience and comprehensive personalisation.
The new BMW Panorama iDrive, running the BMW X operating system, demonstrates the potential of software-centric vehicles,” the statement quoted Head of UI/UX at BMW Group, Stephan Durach.
The enhanced intelligence of the BMW X operating system enables the BMW Panorama Projector, the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display, the central display and the multifunction steering wheel to work together harmoniously, merging physical and digital experiences.
“The new BMW Panorama iDrive display and vehicle control technology can be perfectly adapted to each model series and will appear in all new BMW models from the end of 2025 in every segment, with every drivetrain technology,” it was highlighted.
