“The future is born in Debrecen” – this was the motto of the business forum organised by PwC, one of the world’s leading financial and economic advisory firms.

For the second time, key business figures from the region and the city gathered at the Kölcsey Centre.

At the Kölcsey Centre, influential business players from the region and the city came together. Mayor László Papp stated at the event that recent years have seen changes in Debrecen’s economy that have enabled the city to catch up with the economic powerhouses of Central and Eastern Europe.

“Success for us is not merely achieving goals that can be described in numbers, but rather a feeling that is difficult to capture with numbers. Debrecen is a good place to live and a good place to do business, which can help you achieve business success. Ultimately, the city’s success is your success,” he emphasised.

At the business forum, discussions included how Debrecen can further strengthen its position as a business hub in the coming years. Topics also covered how progress in business and education can be jointly fostered, as well as the tools needed to support opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises.

“In such uncertain times, cohesion, cooperation, and dialogue are of paramount importance. Nothing reflects this better than Debrecen’s dynamic growth, the strength of local communities, and the ever-expanding scope of activities of businesses operating in the region. The educational institutions and the training, research, and innovation background of the University of Debrecen contribute to the successes and developments of the future,” Tünde Kis, Director of PwC Hungary, stressed.

Virág Marossy, CEO of Debreceni Vagyonkezelő, stated that this forum provided an excellent opportunity not only for professional discussions but also for discussing other areas, such as leadership competencies or the challenges faced by key players in Debrecen’s business scene. “The economic strategic development that Debrecen is undergoing makes it imperative for these business leaders to meet. We, as Vagyonkezelő, are in contact with them as business partners, and through our subsidiary companies, we also act as users,” she summarised.

Barbara Zolmann, Managing Director of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, was asked by Médiacentrum Debrecen about the impact on Hungary and the city if car sales were to decline. She stated that this issue does not affect only Debrecen, as the entire industry is undergoing a transformation. Hungary’s advantage is that German premium brands and Asian manufacturers, who work at the forefront of technology, are present here. “Companies are adapting well to changing circumstances, so we are optimistic about the future of the industry. For Debrecen, however, it may be essential to diversify industrial activities – especially in the field of electromobility – as this can provide stability in the long term,” she explained.

At the event, similar to last year, awards were also handed out. The “Excellence in Business Award” was presented to Veronika Fenyves, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Debrecen. OptiMonk International Zrt earned the “Future Enterprise Excellence” award. The key media partner of the business forum was Médiacentrum Debrecen.
