There are many cars, which sometimes makes parking a problem. Many people hunt for free residential parking spaces to leave their cars during working hours. This bothers many people in Debrecen, as they can hardly stop in front of their car park.
In November, the Debrecen City Council decided to overhaul the city’s parking system completely. This will be done in two phases to make it easier for residents to park near their homes. As part of this, from the 1st of January, parking will become free for residents of Debrecen under certain conditions. The discounted residential parking permit of HUF 6,000 per year will be abolished. A maximum of two cars per household will be allowed to park free of charge in the street indicated on the address card and in its immediate vicinity.
“It is also important that somebody can only register by place of residence if they have a permanent address and a vehicle of their own, and the address is registered in the registration certificate. They can only park for free near their residence, on the streets parallel and perpendicular to it,” Director of DV Parking Ltd. István Nyikos emphasised.
Free parking is available to those who have registered in advance on the DV Parking website.
Two hundred people have already done so since the beginning of the week. DV Parking employees also warn those living in areas where the paid zone will come into effect starting in January with leaflets.
