Mayor László Papp reported on new developments on his social media page. As he writes on Facebook, “A rabbi’s house and mikveh are being built in the heart of the former Jewish quarter”.
The United Hungarian Jewish Community would like to build a new religious-cultural community space, a rabbi’s house, on the property at 31 Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street, which could provide a venue for many religious activities that were not possible in the city until now.
In addition to ensuring the continuity of sacred life in this center, a ritual bath, a mikveh, which has not been available in Debrecen for a long time, would also be established, which is one of the most basic conditions of religious Jewish life, the basis of the purity of family life. The Community undertakes to renovate the property throughout 2026.
