As the final exam of the first semester of the postgraduate course in music and theatre performance, Jr. Johann Strauss’s three-act opera “The Bat” will be performed by the students with the participation of the chamber orchestra and the Medicor choir of the University of Debrecen in the University Hall on the 1st of February.
The performance of “The Bat” will not only be an end-of-semester exam performance, but also a charity event in the University Hall, with proceeds going to free music education and talent development, with the ultimate goal of giving every child an instrument that opens the door to the world of music.
The University of Debrecen is committed to providing high quality music education. In this spirit, a few years ago, in addition to the vocal and music teacher and instrumental musician courses, they introduced a university course in popular music, and now a postgraduate course in stage singing, which is linked to a music degree.
The final exam of the semester at the University of Debrecen embodies the motto “Let music belong to everyone,” highlighting the institution’s commitment to inclusivity in musical education.
The programme uniquely focuses on stage singing rather than concert performance, aiming to ensure that students can elicit emotional responses from their audience.
As a culmination of the postgraduate course “The” Bat is being presented in a shortened form, creatively adapted for contemporary audiences in a non-theatrical environment, where 100 guests will enjoy dinner while the singers perform among them.
