The details were presented at a press conference held by Municipal Representative György Korbeák on the 25th of September 2024.
György Korbeák said that, as in previous years, the Municipality of Debrecen would continue to repair and renovate the stairs in the public space in 2024. This year, stairs have already been renovated in five locations at a gross cost of HUF 22.5 million.
“As a continuation of the programme, work has started in the Újkert District at 20 Jerikó Street. The two sets of stairs will be renovated in consultation with the residents to ensure their safe and unhindered access. The project will also include ramps to make life easier for people with pushchairs,“ the Municipal Representative added.
György Korbeák pointed out that the development would cost about HUF 5.1 million gross, entirely financed by the local government. Considering the weather conditions, the works are expected to take two weeks. He added that the municipality had carried out stair renovation works at 57 sites over the past five years, costing more than HUF 200 million.
Regarding the improvements in his district, he said that all the stairs on Jerikó Street in Újkert had been renovated recently and that the same improvements had been made on the odd-numbered side of Cívis Street. Pavement renovation works are also ongoing. The district has also been affected by the large-scale asphalting programme in several locations, as the section between Jerikó Street 18 and 20, the double side of Menyhárt Square, Sétakert Street and Újkert Street have also resurfaced recently.
