These days, more and more people are looking for pine trees, many of whom are purchasing their Christmas trees from Debrecen-Józsa. However, buyers are leaving the pine forest empty-handed for now, as the trees are only cut down right before the holiday. Those who buy from there support domestic producers and also contribute to achieving the zero waste goal, as no waste is generated there.

In the pine forest of Debrecen-Józsa, even if somebody buys a spruce tree they like, the tree remains in the ground, because the marked specimens are only cut down in the days before the holiday.

Customers can choose freshly cut trees from the pine forest or trees with roots.

The place visited by Debrecen Television is growing spruce and silver pines where regular customers also purchase pine trees from the same place year after year because of the plants’ durability.

At the Debrecen-Józsa pine forest, they consider environmental protection and sustainability important, they do not produce trees unnecessarily, they only cut down as much as they have reserved in advance.

That’s why they charge no delivery or other fees, which means that on average the pine trees are 20 percent cheaper than market prices.

“The biggest advantage of this as a farmer is that there is no waste. So we take care of the environment. Obviously we produce them in rotation, this can be a 4-5 year rotation for a spruce, we plant them 30 centimeters apart and after 5 years they reach the 1 meter height that the buyer takes away,” Judit Gyökös, farmer of the Külvárosi Fenyőerdő (Suburban Pine Forest)) said.
