The event “TechCsajok” (TechGirls in English) encourages young women to study and work in technical fields.

The world of technical, scientific and IT professions is exciting and attractive.

The German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce organised the event with the strategic partner, the University of Debrecen Technical Faculty. At the event, several companies and training institutions presented the diverse learning and career opportunities these areas offer.

On Thursday morning, about 400 female students facing a career choice expressed interest in technical, IT, and natural science studies and professions.

Only 10 percent of the Technical Faculty of the University of Debrecen students are girls. In recent decades, however, the stereotype that there are women’s and men’s professions seems to be disintegrating, so in the future, many more women may also appear in technical careers.

Géza Husi, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said that engineering work has changed significantly recently, requiring more thinking and problem-solving.

Silke Janz, vice president of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce. said at the event that there has never been a better time for young women to land their dream job and pursue a career in tech. Schools, universities and companies will also support girls on this journey.

Debrecen’s significant economic development can also provide excellent opportunities for those working in technical fields; Deputy Mayor István Puskás discussed this at the event’s official opening.

“Today, Debrecen is a city of opportunities, and we are working to ensure that every year, even every day, there are as many opportunities as possible for the people of Debrecen or those studying in Debrecen to imagine and build their future here in Debrecen,” the deputy mayor said.

Ten companies presented themselves to future engineers and IT professionals at the event. In addition to the exhibitors, successful female leaders and inspiring role models will also help with their advice.

The TechGirls event was organized for the 8th time.
