The best entries were also awarded at the opening ceremony on the 11th of May 2024. The exhibition will be on display at the Kölcsey Centre until the 20th of June 2024.
Every year, the Debrecen Spring Art Exhibition gives local artists or artists with ties to the city the opportunity to show where they are now, what they are working on. The series will alternate between painting and printmaking/photography every two years, with printmaking/photography being the focus in 2024 and sculpture being shown every year. From the entries received in advance, a jury of 52 artists selected 82 works to be exhibited at Kölcsey Centre. This time, the City of Debrecen prize was awarded to Tamás Varga for his work entitled Megkapaszkodás (Scraping).
“What makes this year more interesting and exciting than the previous ones is that we actually started to organise the first Debrecen Art Week around the spring exhibition. Thanks to this initiative, the spring exhibition will be extended to the city, if you like, as Debrecen artists will be exhibiting in 18 more venues this weekend,” Deputy Mayor of Debrecen István Puskás said.
