The City of Debrecen and the Association of Political Prisoners have erected a cross made of railway rails at Kónya, at the site of one of the forced labour camps in Hortobágy.
The memorial is a tribute to those who were deported without trial to slave labour in inhumane conditions. Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor László Papp said it is important to draw the attention of posterity to the crimes of communism so that they never happen again.
