The Debrecen Council for the Elderly 2024 met on the 4th of December 2024 with the participation of the Municipality of Debrecen and representatives of its member organisations. There is regular contact with the civil society organisations of the senior citizens of Debrecen on the issues of the city and the elderly.

Mayor László Papp highlighted that cooperation with the pensioners’ organisations in Debrecen goes back many years, and today’s meeting of the Council for the Elderly was not only a meeting to discuss the tasks of the past period, but also to discuss the future.

“We reviewed the possibilities of the city’s social system to support the well-being of the elderly. Every year, the city provides budget support for the activities of the senior citizens’ organisations in Debrecen, and we have identified the main directions of the programmes that the city will be able to support,” the Mayor emphasised.

He pointed out that it is very important for the pensioners of Debrecen to participate in the life of the city in a healthier and more active way, thus they are focusing on an even broader cooperation within the framework of the Move Debrecen! programme. At the same time, they also want seniors to have a cultural experience, therefore they decided that in 2025, in connection with Mother’s Day and Christmas, they would be able to make the holidays more enjoyable with a free theater performance for members of Debrecen organisations. In addition, in January 2025, members of pensioners’ associations will be able to visit the renovated Old Town Hall in groups of 30-40 people.
