The Debrecen English-Language Drama Festival held between the 24th and the 26th of May

The curtain went up, from Friday the 24th of May to Sunday the 26th of May 2024, Debrecen Drama Days was held in Debrecen, with English-language performances by high school and university drama companies from all over the country.

Young people from Budapest, Pécs and Szeged also came to Drama Days. The event  also featured students from the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Humanities, the Institute of English-American Studies and members of DESzínház. In addition to the presentations, the associations had the opportunity to exchange experiences and participate in workshops.

A jury of Hungarian and American experts evaluated the performances from both a professional and linguistic point of view. The programme, held in the Vojtina Puppet Theatre, opened with a performance by the actors of the University of Szeged. Deputy Mayor of Debrecen said in his speech that foreign languages were an indispensable part of today’s world.

“Such an event is also particularly gratifying because Debrecen is always happy to host big meetings. When the world and the country come together in the city and can exchange information, knowledge and experiences, we are confident that Debrecen will be a good host this time too,” the Deputy  Mayor said.

Admission to the lectures was free of charge. The detailed programme and descriptions of the performances were available on the American Corner Debrecen Facebook page and in the programme booklet.
