The 7th European University Games have started in Debrecen. The continental tournament between higher education institutions opened on Wednesday with women’s futsal matches in the Főnix Arena. Over the next two weeks, 2500 competitors, from 35 countries, in 7+1 sports: futsal, handball, beach handball, badminton, 3×3 basketball, football, table tennis, and para table tennis, will compete in Debrecen.
The European University Games kicked off in Debrecen with a clash between the women’s futsal teams of the University of Minho, Portugal and the University of Tampere, Finland. The first half was a very close match, but in the second half the tem of the University of Tampere took the lead and won their first match 5-3.
The University of Debrecen will host the event for the first time, the two-week competition is the result of the work of hundreds of volunteers and a huge team effort.
During the European University Games, the University of Debrecen’s delegation will compete in 13 sports with students from other European institutions. The matches are free of charge for everyone to attend, and the exact dates and venues can be found on the official website of the Games.
