The Ibis Styles Debrecen Airport Hotel was inaugurated. The hotel is expected to welcome guests from the beginning of 2025.

Accor, one of the world’s leading hotel management companies, is expanding its portfolio of renowned brands in Hungary, further strengthening its presence in the country’s Eastern region. The group will open an Ibis Styles hotel at Debrecen International Airport, welcoming its first guests in 2025; it was announced at Expo Real in Munich, one of the world’s most prestigious real estate development trade fairs. XANGA Airport Hotel Kft., part of the Debrecen Industrial Development Fund portfolio managed by XANGA Ventures Private Equity Fund Management Zrt., is building the ibis Styles Debrecen Airport Hotel.

The hotel’s inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday to mark the building reaching its highest point.

Speaking at the event, István Herdon, CEO of XANGA Ventures Private Equity Fund Management Zrt.., said that the development of an airport needs to be examined on a 5-10-year scale if we want to get a realistic picture.

“In 2010, we won a public tender and started a series of 13 development projects over the past 13 years,” he said. He believes this hotel project is a strong element of the airport’s business environment. “A particular success story is that we have reached an agreement with Accor Group, one of the world’s leading hotel operators, and we are able to open an Ibis Styles hotel, which is one of the most popular brands within the group. The hotel will offer 73 modern, comfortable rooms on four floors, 20 apartments with the unique Ibis Styles style, and is expected to open in early 2025,” he said. The project will be financed with HUF 5 billion.

Mayor of Debrecen László Papp pointed out that when they launched a new economic development process in 2014-15, they had a strong vision for the city’s future. The airport was an untapped resource for Debrecen.

“In 2012, we were able to start air traffic, and the numbers grew excellently until 2019; then, there was a break, but the numbers again show that Debrecen International Airport is a very viable and important facility for the region,” the mayor stressed. He added that in August this year, the airport’s traffic exceeded the figure it achieved last year. László Papp said that any viable airport is unthinkable without a good quality hotel service.

This investment fills a gap. It completes the service portfolio of Debrecen International Airport and improves the quality parameters of the airport, he said, adding that the number of guests in the hotel industry in Debrecen has increased by almost 10 per cent, while the number of overnight stays has risen by 6 per cent. There is practically no part of Debrecen where there is no major investment – in transport, in the economy, in the hotel industry or the housing market.

He pointed out that more hotels are and will be needed in the coming period because economic growth will bring them.

Frank Reul, Accor Group Vice President for Development Eastern Europe, said at the ceremony that when he looked around from the hotel’s second floor, he was impressed by the construction work in the city. He said the Accor group was proud to be part of this development. ibis is one of Accord’s best-known brands, with around two thousand properties outside the United States worldwide.
