This year, the University of Debrecen and the University of Miskolc will host the European University Games, the Secretary of State responsible for innovation and higher education of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) announced at the 24th Educatio International Education Exhibition in Budapest on Thursday.

Balázs Hankó emphasised that Hungarian higher education is one of the best, as 12 Hungarian universities are in the top five percent of universities in the world. ‘Those who enrol in Hungarian universities have an unprecedented opportunity to shape the future., ‘ he stated.

Among the goals to be achieved, the Secretary of State mentioned that by 2030, one Hungarian university should be among the top 100 universities in the world, and three universities among the top 100 institutions of the European Union.

‘We achieve this by switching our international programs to a higher level, ‘  he emphasised and also added that  they set the goal that at least 20,000 young people go abroad every year, and that the number of foreign students studying here also increases.

Balázs Hankó said that they would  bring “the whirlwind of international life” to Hungarian universities and in the spirit of this the University of Debrecen and the University of Miskolc would host the European University Games this year.

The state secretary also reported that the number of students admitted to higher education had increased by 33 percent in 2023.
