Vojtina Puppet Theatre launches a season full of shows. A total of 25 different programmes, including six new performances, will be staged in Kálvin Square and Kossuth Street. 2024/25, the “season of encounters” promises audiences diversity, uniqueness and all-round artistry.
The Vojtina Puppet Theatre presented its new season at a board meeting on Wednesday, the previous season closed with record attendance.
“This season opener follows one that saw an attendance of 44,000 visitors. I take these numbers as a positive sign for the next season, too,” Director of Vojtina Puppet Theatre, Anikó Asbóth emphasised.
The Kálvin Square building was renovated during the summer. The three apartments owned by the puppet theatre have been converted into a stage, accommodation, offices and a community space. This season, performances will again take place in two venues, Kálvin Square and Kossuth Street.
“This is a great example of how to move forward from such critical situations, from such predicaments, and to forge strength from difficulties, because we were able to move from a predicament born of an energy crisis to a situation where there is a real opportunity to build further for the community of Vojtina,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás said.
The puppet theatre announces a season of encounters. The institution also relies on guest artists, acting students on university internships, as well as high school students, but they also want to appeal to the older age group. There will be six new productions and three revivals of long-running, once-popular productions.
“Our shows, our guest performances, diversity, all-round artistry and encounters – these are the keywords that will sum up our whole season,” Artistic Director of Vojtina Puppet Theatre Terka Láposi said.
On the 8th of September, the company will present its first premiere, The Fairy of the Three-Branched Oak Tree.
