As a member of the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Alliance, the university can work with domestic and international actors to implement sustainable development, environmental responsibility, social justice and good governance, which are core values of the university strategy.

The University of Debrecen has always paid special attention to creating an environment for its students, faculty and researchers that encourages sustainable thinking and contributes to the long-term well-being of the community. Incorporating ESG principles into the university’s daily operations further strengthens this commitment.

“Joining the ESG Alliance not only strengthens the university’s reputation, but also creates another opportunity to be an active player in sustainability initiatives. The university is in a unique position to directly influence the outlook of future generations,” Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, Zoltán Bács said.

The institution’s management is dedicated to implementing the ESG ethos not only in university education and research, but also in its daily operations. This step serves the benefit not only of the university, but also of society as a whole.

Joining will, among other things, allow the institution to participate in joint research projects, conferences and workshops, and gain access to the latest trends and solutions related to ESG.

The University of Debrecen and the Faculty of Economics have long been committed to educational activities and research related to ESG topics. This year, the ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance Specialist Master’s Degree Programme was launched at the Faculty of Economics, and the ESG Consultant’s partial knowledge training is also available. In addition, the Faculty of Economics has supported the sustainability-related aspirations of companies and individuals by organising several successful ESG workshops, and recently held the 1st UD-ESG Conference and Forum with great success.

The ESG Association has built a significant professional community in a short time: almost thirty key organisations, including universities, professional associations, and key representatives of the domestic large corporate and SME sectors, have seen the professional opportunities inherent in joint work, which further enriches the collective knowledge base and advocacy power of the association.

“With the joining of the University of Debrecen, our alliance is further strengthened professionally, as educational institutions play a key role in ensuring that future professionals are prepared to face sustainability challenges.

The professional cooperation established with the university enriches the knowledge base with which we support the ESG transition of Hungarian companies,” President of the ESG Association, László Krisán said.

One of the founders of the ESG Association, KAVOSZ E-Green PLC plays an important role in developing the ESG readiness of domestic companies and supporting the sustainable economic transition, offering professional support to businesses, especially SMEs, to achieve their sustainability goals.

At the same time, the ESG Alliance, established on the initiative of the ESG Foundation, is a unique professional platform that connects market players involved in the field of ESG, thereby supporting the widespread spread of sustainable business practices, as exemplified by the accession of the University of Debrecen, which strengthens knowledge sharing between the educational sphere and business life.
