The local government has taken a number of measures to help people cope with the heat.
Cooling 200,000 square metres of road surface is also a priority in the heatwave, and the city’s ornamental plants are regularly watered. During the heatwave, water distribution is also organised in addition to the four steam gates that have been installed at four locations in the city.
“The city’s transport company will also take all necessary measures during this time. Among other things, they will make using the air conditioning on buses and trams compulsory, and they will abandon the front-door boarding system minimising the time that the doors are open,” Tibor Schwarcz, Deputy Head of the Urban Development Department of the Municipality of Debrecen, said.
