BMW and CATL’s Debrecen plant were the topic of discussion at the German-Hungarian business forum held in Berlin, an event that Mayor of Debrecen László Papp also attended.

The event was organized by the DialogUngarn (Deutsch-Ungarisches Wirtschaftsnetzwerk – German-Hungarian Business Network) and was attended by Debrecen city leaders, director of the BMW factory in Debrecen Hans-Peter Kemser, German politician, Member of the Bundestag and President of the Verein zur Förderung der Wettbewerbswirtschaft (Association for the Promotion of Competitive Economy) Klaus-Peter Willsh, Chairman of the Board of the International Economic Council Tino Barth and international lawyer Boldizsár Nagy.

“The city of Debrecen has made a name for itself in recent years with great success. Special mention should be made of the construction of the state-of-the-art BMW factory iFACTORY to implement the company’s e-mobility strategy and the announcement by battery manufacturer CATL that it intends to build another factory in Debrecen after Erfurt,” DialogUngarn wrote in a preview of the program.

The discussion also covered the location’s attractiveness, the potential for the supplier industry, urban development investments, and cooperation between German and Hungarian companies.

László Papp wrote on his social media page that Debrecen is also seen as a good example in Germany.

After Berlin, Debrecen’s Mayor will participate in a similar event in another German city on 6th March: Perspectives of German-Hungarian economic cooperation – Business Day in Padernborn, Debrecen’s twin town.

On Friday, László Papp and Lajos Barcsa also met Maren Schoening, head of DialogUngarn – the German-Hungarian Dialogue – and founding president of the German-Hungarian Youth Association, to discuss further cooperation opportunities.

“The association is an important partner of the city, as we help to build relations between Hungarian and German young people in educational and cultural issues,” the mayor wrote on his social media page.
