The final round of the photo competition “Egymásba kapaszkodva” (Holding on to each other) is now open to entries from secondary school students.
All pedestrians can admire the shop window on Piac Street: the photographs show sculptures of houses in the heart of the city.
Nearly 70 entries were received, five of which were awarded prizes by the jury, and one was a special prize. Student Csaba Rajta was one of the winners. “We have a photography club at school and regularly receive calls for entries. I thought I should apply. I like to go around town with my camera and take photos as a hobby,” he said.
The Cívis Ház Zrt., in cooperation with the Debrecen Town Preservation and Beautification Association (Debreceni Városvédő és Szépítő Egyesület) and other partners, launched the “Hidden Treasures of Local Houses” exhibition series last spring. “We were able to reach a lot of young people, and now the children reached us through the teachers,” Edit Erdei, the managing director of Cívis Ház Zrt.., said.
Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Mayor István Puskás said that the iconic buildings symbolise the city’s built heritage. Therefore, it is of particular importance to attract the younger generation’s interest.”There is no question that in the rapidly changing, dynamically changing Debrecen, the city needs to preserve its identity and its traditions, and our built heritage has a special role in this,” he stressed.
The current competition will be followed by a new photo competition on the theme of bourgeois houses in the city centre.
