Mayor of Debrecen László Papp said that the event also clearly shows that “Move, Debrecen!” health initiative is really a big sports program that moves the whole city.  The participants cycled 10 kilometres together. The meeting point was at the Debrecen Extreme Sports Park (DebEx). Many people came to this sports programme with friends.

Debrecen has more than 110 kilometres of cycle paths, and the city was recently recognised as a cycling-friendly municipality. Now a lockable, app-operated bicycle storage facility has been handed over, which will be tested in the city centre this summer.

“We believe that this could be a safe and forward-looking solution for how to store bicycles safely. It also has a pump that can be used to inflate the wheel of the bike when needed. After New York and Paris, these bicycle lockers will also appear in Debrecen,” Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs said.

After the common start, the cyclists cycled for example along Pósa Street and Domokos Márton Street, and then rested at the Vezér Street reservoir.

“I’m happy because, judging by the number of participants, the popularity of the “Move, Debrecen!” health initiative is not decreasing. In fact, it is on the rise. There were well over 1,400 registrations for today’s city bypass, which shows that the initiative is a great sports programme that really gets Debrecen moving,” the mayor said.

Refreshments were also provided for cyclists and there was even a picnic. The final destination of the bike ride tour was also the DebEx in Tócóvölgy, where, among other things, cycling demonstrations and skill exercises awaited the families.
