Security at Christmas fairs will be strengthened because of the hit-and-run incident at the Magdeburg Christmas Fair, the Communications Service of the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) and the Counter-Terrorism Centre (TEK) announced on the 21st of December 2024.
According to ORFK, a permanent, reinforced police presence will be provided. Physical barriers will be set up in and around the domestic fairs and their immediate surroundings and on the main routes leading to them to prevent and deter crime in public places and to increase the subjective feeling of safety in response to the hit-and-run incident at the Magdeburg Christmas Fair. Visitors to fairs are asked to pay close attention to their valuables and to follow signs and instructions from police officers.
The Counter-Terrorism Centre said that to maintain the public’s sense of security, its units are present in and around the Christmas fairs in the countryside and the capital.
The Municipality of Debrecen would like to thank both organisations for securing the city’s Christmas fair and ensuring the safety of visitors.
