The 3rd of March has been World Wildlife Day for more than a decade, a highlight of conservation that raises awareness to the diversity, invaluable value of wildlife, and the threatening dangers they posed and the urgent importance of protecting them.
On the 2rd of March, 1973 CITES, the Washington Convention regulating the international trade in endangered wild animals and plants, was adopted and in 2013 the UN General Assembly decided to declare this anniversary a significant day for nature conservation. On the occasion, between the 1st and the 3rd of March, Debrecen Zoo is awaiting visitors with interactive programmes and an exciting presentation of the life of the five continents.
Programmes:
1-2 March
- Zoo safari: Visitors can take a safari map from the till and check out which animals they managed to encounter during the 10 station safari
- Professional guided tours covering general topics about the animals and their habitats
- Handicraft corner: Not only those families who do the safari tasks sheet can participate. Location : Gibbon House
- Sensory Corner: Come and discover the Zoo-nook, where even the little ones can get acquainted with the interesting things of nature in a playful way. Location: Zoo Nook
- Species of the Year – Permanent Exhibition

Schools and groups can book a free guided tour with a topic of their choice between 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
