About the play:
Ábrahám Pál’s masterpiece, Countess Viktória and István Koltay, tells a love story across borders and history. The story symbolises “history repeating itself” and a precursor to today’s geopolitical conflicts. The lovers, stranded in tensions between Russia, the USA, and China, meet American ambassador John Webster. The musical landscape blends exotic Japanese tones with Hungarian melodies and American jazz motifs.

María de Buenos Aires – tango-opera in Argentinian Spanish – 16 April at 7.00 p.m., 23 April, 6.00 p.m., Latinovits Zoltán stage, Csokonai Fórum
About the play:
María de Buenos Aires is a tango-opera by Astor Piazzolla, showcasing the Argentine heart through its dance. María, a prostitute, falls in love but is murdered by thieves and pimps. With the help of El Duende, she finds redemption but her aspirations of becoming a mother are futile. The opera blends classical music, jazz, and traditional tango, with András Lóránt’s direction highlighting symbolic meanings.
The performance is also special because it can be enjoyed in both Spanish and Hungarian. The singers sing in Spanish, but the audience can follow the text, in Hungarian with subtitles.

About the performance:
The French word “Reverie,” which denotes a dreamy, introspective, or contemplative state, is where the evening gets its name. The program, which consists of two pieces, transports viewers to the realm of dreams and desires, where the dancers delve into the depths of human existence.
