In order to prevent the foot-and-mouth disease virus that has appeared in Hungary and to preserve the safety of the high genetic value livestock managed by Hortobágyi Nonprofit Ltd., the organisation of spring events planned in the Hortobágyi National Park has become uncertain.

The St. George’s Day Drive-Out Festival, Handicraft Fair and the “Our World Heritage, Puszta Day” (April 26, 2025), the National Goulash Competition and Shepherd’s Meeting (May 24, 2025) and the Hortobágy Horse Riding Days (June 6-8, 2025) are CANCELLED, and  are planned to take place in the fall.

Due to the epidemic situation, some of the permanent programs in Hortobágy are also affected by the restrictions, so the Puszta Carriage programme is ON BREAK for an indefinite period, the Mátai Stud Farm, the Hortobágy Wildlife Park and the Puszta Animal Park are NOT ACCEPTING VISITORS for an indefinite period, and it is NOT POSSIBLE to hike on the Szálkahalm nature trail.

Despite the epidemiological restrictions, it is still worth visiting Hortobágy, as the Shepherd’s Museum, the renewed exhibitions of the Hortobágy National Park Visitor Centre, the Inn Museum, the Nine-Hole Bridge, the public sculptures, the Good Shepherd Ecumenical Church and the Bird Hospital can still be visited, and the Hortobágy Inn is also open from Wednesday to Sunday.
