On the occasion of World Dance Day, at the initiative of the National Association of Dance Teachers and the Hungarian University of Dance Arts, the 7th Great Dance Choice event will be organised once again, which, as part of a national programme series, awaits dance lovers and those who would like to discover this wonderful form of movement in Debrecen!
The Debrecen programme was created in cooperation with the Modern Tánc-Játék Studio and Főnix Event Organizer Ltd.
What awaits visitors?
- 23 different dance styles – Try yourself in free 30-minute dance lessons, where 23 different styles from classical ballet, hip-hop, Latin and folk dances to modern, contemporary, cheerleading, capoeira, competitive dance, country, show dance and acrobatics are waiting for you!
- All ages are welcome. – Children, young people, adults and the elderly can join the program. It is worth coming in comfortable clothes suitable for dance class, but there is also the possibility of changing clothes. Socks are perfect for ballroom dance classes, comfortable shoes are recommended for classes held on the roof terrace.
- Spectacular World Dance Day Gala Performances – Presentations of the best dance groups in Debrecen and its surroundings from 11:00 a.m. ,1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
- Dance, community, good mood. – A day that is about the joy of movement, the beauty of art and the experience of dancing together. The event’s goal is to bring dance closer to everyone, show the diversity of the genre and inspire everyone to make dance a part of everyday life

Dance On The Screen – Film Specials For World Dance Day and the Great Dance Choice event, 3 May 4:00 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 8:30 p.m. Venue: Apollo Cinema
On the occasion of World Dance Day and the Great Dance Selection, we are waiting for you at the Apollo Cinema with special films, where three iconic dance films show the magic of movement, passion and art!
Screenings and times:
- 4:00 p.m. Ballerina (89 minutes) – A magical family animated film that follows a young girl’s dream of becoming a famous ballerina in Paris. A perfect choice for both young and old!
- 5:45 p.m. – West Side Story (156 minutes) – The legendary musical romantic drama that brings Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet story to life in a modern dance form. Stunning choreographies, iconic melodies and a timeless love story that should not be missed!
- 8:30 p.m. – The Dancer (85 minutes) – A fascinating documentary about Sergei Polunin, the “bad boy of ballet”, who shook the world of ballet with his talent and rebellious spirit. An inspiring story about an exceptional artist!
