In May, Debrecen’s free sports programs continue, aimed at promoting the social inclusion of people with disabilities. Organised with the municipality’s coordination, these events provide experience-based physical activities at multiple locations.

The Municipality of Debrecen plays an active role in integrating people with disabilities through sports. City-organised sports events will continue throughout May as part of the ERASMUS-SPORT-2023-SCP international initiative. The professional program “Heroes of Local Responsible Sport Enterprises – Inclusion-InSport-InSociety” aims to engage people with disabilities in regular physical activity by utilising innovative software and sports providers.

Several locations will host activities throughout the month:

  • At Bocskai István Primary School’s swimming pool, individuals with autism spectrum disorder will have access to swimming sessions.
  • On May 16, 2025, at the Debrecen Sports Pool, the Debrecen Sports Centre Nonprofit Ltd. and the DSI Debrecen swimming division will organise a swimming program for children with special educational needs.
  • Additionally, at the Békessy Béla Fencing Centre, participants will have the opportunity to try wheelchair fencing.

All programs are free of charge and organised with the municipality’s support alongside multiple sports providers.

The organisers continue to welcome applications from organisations and sports service providers via sport@ph.debrecen.hu or the online platform www.foggosport.com.
