The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen is launching a unique and gap-filling optional course entitled Modern Artificial Intelligence.
The primary aim of the course is to offer a broad range of knowledge to students, teachers and academics who are interested in technology.
The course is offered online by the Faculty of Informatics and covers a wide range of disciplines, including arts, creative industries, medicine, economics, ethics, robotics, cloud computing, data and cyber security, and agriculture.
“We would like to focus on the processes that are taking place in the world today and in which AI technology plays a key role. The reception of our soon-to-be-launched course has also been very positive among guest lecturers. As a result, there is also the possibility to bring in external experts from different disciplines. Students are also increasingly asking how they can learn more about AI beyond the regular use of tools such as ChatGPT. We are launching a course that offers a deeper, broader knowledge than the simple use of AI tools, which can even be integrated into daily work. We also want to demonstrate the applicability of AI in scientific work. In the latter, we will also draw attention to how AI can be used, for example, in the preparation of a thesis or a research paper. As the multidisciplinary nature of the University of Debrecen is very strong, we will touch upon as many disciplines as possible during the teaching,” Dean of the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen, András Hajdu said.
The Head of the Faculty emphasised that it is inevitable that over time the different disciplines will be linked, and that several disciplines will cooperate in a major development, and artificial intelligence is the common point in this. The main objective of the training is to provide a comprehensive and broad knowledge base in a clear and understandable way, and to enable the trainees to apply this knowledge in practice. András Hajdu added that the three-credit course aims to raise awareness of the benefits and potential applications of technology in society.
Among other things, the course will cover everyday applications of AI, such as smartphone assistants, chatbots, self-driving cars, as well as supervised and unsupervised teaching, large language models, creative content generation (images, music, video), artificial intelligence in personalised medicine, among others.
Besides students of any faculty of the University of Debrecen, lecturers or even office staff can apply for the course. No previous IT or programming knowledge is required. The course is expected to be available within a few days on the application platform of the university’s NEPTUN – Electronic Learning System.
Those more seriously interested in the subject can also join the AI workshop of the György Hajós Data Science College.
