Audiences will be able to experience a variety of genres in the 2024/25 season, as the important goal is to increase the number of visitors further.

Rehearsals have been underway since the summer for the first performance of the family musical “Oliver!” in the 2024/25 season, which will take place on the 13th of September at the Csokonai National Theatre. Based on last year’s numbers and surveys, the theatre’s audiences really like musicals. That’s why the new season will include operettas, operas, musicals, and comedies.

“The Csokonai Fórum will focus on drama. We aim to increase the number of spectators compared to the previous season. To achieve our goals, I will also change the management structure. A five-member artistic council will take over the work of the one-person artistic director,” Director Szabolcs Mátyássy said.

In the new season, the dance company will have a new director. “I inherited a professional, technically excellent, colourful company that inspired me from day one. So I’m looking forward to working with them to strengthen the company’s role in the city,” Edit Domoszlai stated.

“The local government will continue to support the work of the theatre in every way,” Mayor of Debrecen László Papp said, adding that Debrecen is the leading cultural centre of the region and Csokonai National Theatre has a big role to play in this. “This is Debrecen’s mission, its task,” the mayor stressed.

The Csokonai National Theatre will host 15 performances, and four guest plays this season.
