The grant supports teachers who are outstanding in their work in talent management. 135 successful teachers from 20 educational institutions in Debrecen have now been awarded the “Köbüki” Scholarship.

“The ceremony opened with a musical performance by the winning art teachers. The Köbüki Scholarship is a professional recognition of teachers and trainers who have paid special attention to talent management, supporting the continuation of their value-creating activities and the further development of their methods. I can also say that Kodály is the cradle of talent education among the institutions in Debrecen: we have a lot of very, very talented students,” pianist and Director of the Kodály Zoltán Music Secondary School Edit Laskay said.

At the scholarship award ceremony, Deputy State Secretary Annamária Pósánné Rácz said that in the first year of the programme, launched in 2023, there were about a thousand successful applicants nationwide, while now there are twice as many, from a total of almost 5,000 educational institutions. Debrecen’s teachers and institutions are also outstandingly successful in a national context. “There are five institutions in Debrecen in the TOP 33, so within the list of 480, and five institutions from which more than ten colleagues have received this scholarship,” the Deputy State Secretary emphasised.

Director of the Debrecen School District Centre, László Türk, called the teachers who excel in talent management role models, and who have now been recognised with the Köbüki Scholarship. “This scholarship is a hallmark of many things in your work: the sacrifice of free time, the extra preparation in a subject, and everything that is needed for a student to succeed in the given competitions,” he addressed his words to the teachers.

Mayor László Papp highlighted that education is one of the most important depositories of development and a strategic sector in Debrecen. The city supports education in many different ways, and there is a continuous relationship with the institution owners in the Education Council. “The city has invested a lot of energy in improving the educational infrastructure over the last 10 years, but we have also tried to focus on the content,” the Mayor said. This year, a total of 135 teachers from 20 educational institutions in Debrecen who successfully applied for the “Köbüki” Scholarship received a monthly grant of HUF 75,000 for ten months.
