The 32 km long transmission line between Debrecen and Balmazújváros has been completely renovated.

The so-called control point near Nagymacs is part of an upgraded transmission system that supplies almost a third of the drinking water needs of Debrecen and several surrounding municipalities. The development has almost doubled the capacity of the water supply.

Zoltán Pataki, Chief Engineer of TRV Zrt., said: that a 21st century water facility and transmission line has been built that provides the operator with state-of-the-art, online controllable and professionally superior solutions.

The project also included the installation of additional fittings, manholes, mechanical parts and two main pumps. A so-called SMART system was also developed, which allows the entire network to be managed remotely in a more sustainable way. The Tiszament Regional Water Company (Tiszamenti Regionális Vízművek Zrt.) which is partly implementing the project, has so far supplied drinking water to some 620,000 customers, but after the investment this number will rise to 700,000.

According to László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, the amount of water entering the Debrecen water supply system through the TRV system used to be around 30,000 cubic metres per day. Thanks to the development, this will now rise to 50,000 cubic metres. ” It almost doubles the capacity available so far,” he pointed out.

At the inauguration ceremony, State Secretary Zsolt V. Németh said that significant water utility developments worth more than HUF 1,000 billion have been implemented across the country in the past 10 years. The main objectives of these investments are to increase security of supply, protect the water base and use water resources in an energy-efficient way.

“As a result, almost every household now has access to safe drinking water. Moreover, household coverage of wastewater treatment is more than 80 percent,” the State Secretary stressed.

The development was financed by the European Union and the Hungarian state with a total of HUF 17 billion.
