11th Scandinavian Film Festival at Apollo Cinema

The best Nordic films will be screened at the Apollo Cinema at the 11th Scandinavian Film Festival, co-organised by Vertigo Media and the cinema between the 10th and the 12th of October.

When the Light Breaks| Ljósbrot – Icelandic drama, 82′, 2024, in Icelandic, with Hungarian subtitles

Screening date: 10 October – 6:00 p.m.

The world premiere of the Icelandic film When the Light Breaks was part of the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes International Film Festival, the world’s most prestigious ‘A’ category film festival, where it was also the opening film of the programme. The Oscar-nominated Icelandic director Rúnar Rúnarsson’s drama is a sensitive film about growing up, with an authentic and moving portrayal of the emotional world of teenagers.

Armand | Armand, Norwegian feature, 117′, 2024, in Norwegian, with Hungarian subtitles

Screening date: 11 October – 6:00 p.m.

The Norwegian  film, Armand had its world premiere at the world’s most prestigious ‘A’ category film festival, the Cannes International Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard competition. Armand won the Golden Camera Award for Best First Feature at Cannes. Armand is a film about one of the most important social issues and problems of our time, bullying between children in schools, and what a mother can do when her child is accused of bullying.

Living Dead!  | Håndtering av Udøde Norwegian horror film, 97′, 2023 in Norwegian, with Hungarian subtitles

Screening date: 11 October – 10:15 p.m.

The Norwegian film, The Living Dead!  is the film adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s bestseller, also published in Hungary. The Living Dead! had its world premiere at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, the Sundance International Film Festival’s World Cinema Competition, where it won the Best Music Award. The film is about what society does when our dead loved ones return unexpectedly.

Boys| Vogter, Danish thriller, 100′, 2024, in Danish, with Hungarian subtitles

Screening date: 12 October – 6:00 p.m.

The Danish film, Boys had its world premiere at one of the world’s most prestigious ‘A’ category film festivals, the Berlin International Film Festival. The film was later awarded at the prestigious Hong Kong International Film Festival. Director Gustav Möller’s previous film, The Guilty was a worldwide success and was also popular in Hungarian cinemas. The story is about a female prison guard who, after meeting a prisoner, is confronted with secrets and tragedies from her past.

Szex | Sex, Norwegian romantic drama, 125′, 2024 in Norwegian, with Hungarian subtitles

Screening date: 12 October – 8:15 p.m.

The world premiere of this Norwegian relationship film was held at one of the world’s most prestigious ‘A’ category film festivals, the Panorama Competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it received three awards (from the Ecumenical Jury, the International Art Cinema Association (C.I.C.A.E.) and the European Cinema Network (Label Europa Cinemas).
