For the fifth time, a series of events celebrating Hungary’s most beautiful forest, the Great Forest of Debrecen, will be held again between the 7th and the 13th of October under the title of Great Forest Week. This year’s events include sports programmes, cycling demonstrations, a Green Cinema, guided nature tours, a family day, exhibitions and concerts with the involvement of numerous Debrecen institutions.

5 October 10:00 a.m. Oxygen Cup Forest Run
Location: Debrecen, Great Forest, 500 m from the corner of the cemetery (gate number 3, roundabout) in the forest.

9:00 a.m. Great Forest Day at Nyírerdő PLC Debrecen Forestry (25 Kartács Street)
The Great Forest was declared protected 85 years ago. Commemoration and wreath-laying ceremony at the three pillars commemorating the declaration of the Great Forest with the participation of Ildikó Bárdosi, folk singer and Miklós Molnár, forest engineer.
Programmes of the day:
- Handicraft demonstrations and activities (woodcarving and gingerbread making)
- 9:30 a.m. Demonstration of hunting dogs
- 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – Children’s show at the Kucko Art Farm
- Ferko Kádár’s Photo Theatre
- Photo shoot in front of tarpaulins depicting forest and hunting scenes. The picture will be sent by e-mail in an environmentally friendly way.

- Green Circle of Hajdúböszörmény with environmental and nature conservation activities

2.00 p.m. Hunting – Exhibition of “Természettár” (local environment preservation organisation) at DEMKI Borsos-villa Community House
In the educational exhibition visitors can learn about the centuries-old tradition of hunting in Hungary, the small and big game that can be hunted in Hungary, from pheasants to hares and roe deer. It also presents the Hungarian hunting dog breeds, which are considered Hungaricums. The exhibition also tells the story of the role of hunting in preserving the balance of nature when it is carried out in a controlled environment, and the damage caused by poachers.
Children are invited to a craft play house where the animals of the forest will come to life.
