The Hungarian Revolution of 1848, also known in Hungary as Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848–1849. March 15th, the anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, is an official holiday in Hungary. It is celebrated as a national holiday known as “National Day” or “Revolution and War of Independence Day.” On this day, Hungarians commemorate the events of 1848, honoring the struggle for freedom, independence, and national identity that the revolution represented. It is a day when various events, ceremonies, and cultural activities take place across the country to remember and reflect upon the significance of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 in the nation’s history. The memory of the revolution played a significant role in shaping Hungary’s political and cultural identity, and it continues to be an important part of Hungarian history and heritage.

1.00 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. “Celebratory Flashmob” at Trunken Church (Csonka templom), Ady park, Csapó Street pedestrian zone, Kossuth Square
Contributors: Bíró Orchestra, Debrecen Hajdú Dance Ensemble and Katedra Theater Workshop3.00 p.m. Opening of the Hussar History Exhibition entitled  “Because the hussar is God’s first soldier…”  at New Town Hall Gallery ( Kálvin Square 11)
Greetings by: Dr. János Bene, Secretary of the Hungarian Huszár Foundation and Historian Dr. János Mazsu, Chairman of Debrecen Heritage Committee
The exhibition will be opened by Mayor László Papp and introduced by traditional hussar and collector Tamás Gellért. The material of the exhibition mainly presents uniforms, weapons, sabres, swords, paintings, personal and decorative items from the golden age of the hussars.

11.00 a.m. “Wake up, it’s a day of celebration!” Festive show and wreath-laying at Kossuth square
