On Saturday, the 9th of November, hop aboard Debrecen’s historic railway and enjoy the more than 100-year-old steamer Zsuzsi, in a cloud of smoke, as it merrily puffs away to the Hármashegy. The warmth of the locomotive’s fire will not only infuse the railway, but also the soul as it approaches the House of Nature, where wonderful experiences await participants.
Programme:
9:30 a.m. Departure from Ruyter Street station
10:30 a.m. Arrival at Hármashegyalja
10:40 a.m. Close encounters with geese, ducks, ducks and bird-ringing demonstrations throughout the morning where participants:
- can immerse themselves in the lives of domestic and wild geese and learn about the differences between geese and ducks. Up in the sky, the loud gurgles of geese and the shrill calls of wild geese (lilies) will accompany them on their journey,
- can find out the difference between various waterfowls,
- will not only get a theoretical insight, but will meet some of them too, may get to see them up close, swimming gracefully in the lake or strolling along the shore.
Through the bird ringing and songbird tracking programme item participants:
- can listen to the most amazing sounds of nature, the song of songbirds, while learning how to track these graceful creatures.
- will not only get useful information in the bird tracking demonstration but they will also see first-hand how they are tagged and how they can track their migration.
11:00 a.m. Solitary birding demonstration – The power of predators
- Organisers’ falconer will give a close-up demonstration of a bird of prey. You’ll feel the rush of air as it spreads its wings, and learn about the “weapons of nature” these incredible hunters have to offer.
11:30 a.m. – Forest hike on the Kajla Circuit
- The day will be crowned with an exhilarating forest hike on the scenic Kajla Circuit to encounter the phenomena of the silent autumn forest.
12:00 p.m.- Autumn fruits and snacks – Tastes of nature
- At the fruit stall, attendees can taste delicious autumn fruits – fresh apples, pears, plums – and buy them on the spot to enjoy nature’s gifts at home. There will also be goose fat and duck fat snack tastings available, so that the flavours of nature are not only pleasing to the eyes, but also to the stomach.
1:00 p.m. – The return of Zsuzsi from Hármashegyalja
Important information:
- Please wear layers of clothing and comfortable shoes as the programme is outdoors.
- A buffet with drinks and fresh pumpkins and autumn fruits will be available at the stalls.
