Spring Retro Day with the  Zsuzsi  Forest Railway

This year, in the spirit of the Spring Retro Day, the 102-year-old Steamer Lady Zsuzsi will lead visitors into the forest! The majestic power and nostalgic atmosphere of the legendary steamer invites all ages on a special journey. The festive train ride will take you back in time to the stories of the last century, while time in nature offers new experiences for families and nature lovers.

Join us on this special journey to celebrate the awakening of spring and the Hungarian national holiday together! The more than 100-year-old steamer Zsuzsi will set off in a cloud of fragrant and fiery smoke towards the Hármashegy for a memorable day in nature.

Programmes:

Forest walk – in the footsteps of Hungarian national symbols 

  • Discovering the colours of the Hungarian national flag in nature: red, white and green flowers, mushrooms and leaves.
  • Birds of the Hungarian symbols – the role of the “turul” bird, the white stork and the saker falcon in Hungarian culture.
  • Invoking István Fekete’s 125: Kele, the August wanderer of the Hungarian nation, the return of the white stork.
  • A short presentation on the migration, nesting and conservation status of the stork.
  • Meeting with a white stork that stayed behind and strengthened during the winter, followed by a joint release.

Spring forest with birdsongs

  • Experiencing the colours, sounds and smells of the spring forest.
  • The importance of birdsongs – listening and bird song recognition play.

Bird ringing demonstration

  • An insight into the world of bird ringing led by experts.
  • A special opportunity to observe the process of bird ringing live and learn about bird biology.

National gastronomic experiences

  • Taste local specialities in national colours.
  • Delicious food and drinks decorated in red, white and green.
  • A “Nature on your plate” buffet will be open on site, offering refreshing drinks and dishes made from local ingredients.
