Hinamacuri, also called Baby’s Day or Girls’ Day, is a special day in Japan celebrated every year. At that event Various staggered stands are covered with red carpets and dolls are placed on them, representing the Emperor, Empress, their attendants and musicians, dressed in Heian-era costumes. The origin of the display of Hina dolls in Japan dates back to the Heian period. According to Chinese belief, sin and misfortune can be transferred into a doll. In order to rid the body of these harmful things, the doll must be thrown into a river.
The dolls are on public display from mid-February and as Valentine’s Day chocolates flood the shops, there are also lots of cute little decorations and sweets for the upcoming Hinamacuri. Each level in the tiered layout has a different meaning.
