Winter Farewell Street Ball on Debrecen’s Oldest Pedestrian Street

The Chinese Lantern Festival is traditionally held in February to mark the end of the Chinese New Year, so it is around the same time as the carnival celebrated in Hungary.

At the joint event of the Creative Community of Debrecen and the Confucius Institute visitors can enjoy a music-dance-singing performance of the Chinese cultural circle in an environment decorated with beautiful lanterns, learn about a traditional Chinese musical instrument, the “guzheng”, and then enjoy a light show by fire jugglers.

During the colourful programme, children are invited to take part in a carnival costume contest, with prizes to be won, and at the end of the event, Aquamanó will perform at the rousing street ball.

The event will close with loud shouting and banging to chase away winter, so the organisers are urging everyone not to leave their “noise-making” devices at home.

The Chinese Lantern Festival will be held on the 21st of  February from 4.45 p.m. on Batthyány Street.

Please find more details about the event on this link.
